During his voyage around the globe which was to last fifteen years, the ports of call followed one after the other. Each one full of new surprises: the diversity of the maritime cultures added to the variety of the boats, forms, colours, customs and people.
The former art school student was revitalized, he rediscovered his original vocation, that of an artist. He drew, sketched, and photographed the men and all the details of the boats.
The sailor filled with enthusiasm, realized that he had to bear witness to these discoveries. Painting in water colours was the most appropriate technique aboard a boat and soon the map table was covered with drawings. Louis George-Batier had become a seascape painter.
On his return he has over 230 seascape paintings representing the maritime heritage of over 50 countries. These water paintings have been framed and preserved preciously in souvenir of his navigations.
The collection “Traditional boats of the world” is born !
It has become the object of numerous sponsorships , among others the prestigious UNESCO.
